Why You Should Never Use ChatGPT for Your CV

Creating a CV can be stressful, overwhelming, and exhausting. So, when people see AI tools like ChatGPT offering to whip up a CV for free in seconds, it’s tempting. I get it.
But using ChatGPT for your CV is a terrible mistake. And if you’re serious about landing a job, you need to hear why.
The Harsh Reality of the Job Market
I’ve worked in HR for over 12 years, across Europe (the UK, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Spain, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Malta, Austria), the US, LATAM, and the UAE. I’ve reviewed thousands of CVs, conducted countless interviews, and hired across various industries and markets.
Here’s what I’ve seen firsthand:
Dubai’s job market is brutal. In Dubai alone, job postings receive anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 applications. And you know what? Most CVs never even reach a recruiter’s desk. They get rejected by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) before a human ever lays eyes on them.
This isn’t just true for Dubai. It’s the same across the US, Europe, and LATAM. Everywhere.
Why ChatGPT Isn’t Your Friend Here
It’s tempting to use ChatGPT because it’s fast and free. But the problem is, it’s not built for CV writing.
ChatGPT is Not a CV Specialist
ChatGPT is a language model that pulls information from all over the internet. And guess what? The internet is flooded with outdated, incorrect, and poorly structured CV templates. It’s simply recycling random content from different sources, most of which have no idea what actually works.
It Doesn’t Understand ATS Systems
Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) are used by companies to scan CVs for format, structure, keywords, and measurable achievements. If your CV doesn’t pass the ATS, it’s rejected before anyone even sees it.
And here’s the thing:
ChatGPT doesn’t understand how ATS systems work.
It doesn’t know how to format a CV properly or what structure recruiters are looking for.
It has no idea which keywords matter for your specific industry.
Most ChatGPT-generated CVs get filtered out immediately.
No Strategy, No Structure, Just Guesswork
Here’s the worst part: You can feed your CV back into ChatGPT and ask, “Is this good?” It will give you suggestions and rephrase it. But it doesn’t actually know if it’s good.
You can do this over and over, and ChatGPT will keep giving you different versions because it has no real strategy or structure.
It’s not analyzing your achievements, it’s just throwing out generic phrases and hoping they work.
Where Are Your Numbers Coming From?
CVs need to include real, measurable achievements. ChatGPT doesn’t know your true metrics, results, or the value you bring. If you don’t provide them accurately, it just makes assumptions.
And guess what? Recruiters see right through that. They know when a CV is full of fluff and missing real results.
Recruiters Will See Right Through It
AI-generated CVs are generic, soulless, and often full of unnecessary fluff. Recruiters can spot them immediately.
A CV needs to be tailored to:
Your field
Your skills
Your industry
Your unique achievements
It needs to follow a structure that recruiters are looking for and that ATS systems can read. ChatGPT doesn’t know what those are.
What You Need Instead
If you’re serious about landing a job, you need a real CV specialist who understands:
How ATS systems work and how to beat them.
What recruiters in your industry are searching for.
How to structure your CV to highlight your true skills, achievements, and potential.
How to position you properly in the job market.
I’ve spent 12+ years in HR, helping candidates get noticed in Europe, the US, LATAM, and the UAE. I know what works because I’ve seen it from the other side. And I know what doesn’t.
Why I’m Telling You This
Because I hate seeing talented people held back by poorly written CVs. Because I’ve seen the frustration of good candidates being ignored just because their CVs were made by ChatGPT or other AI tools that have no idea how the real hiring process works.
If you’re tired of wasting time and getting rejected over and over, it’s time to do something different.
Want me to help you do it the right way? Reach out, and I’ll make sure your CV actually works.
